Moscow of 1976 is stagnant and full of nostalgia. A down-on-his-luck actor meets a charismatic writer — a living legend of the Soviet literature, who turns his life into a knockabout comedy, at times verging on tragedy, starring artistic bohemia, prostitutes, KGB officers, and CIA agents.
